Our Story
Pit Band Birmingham is a brand new amateur orchestra, starting in January 2027, aiming to make playing musical theatre scores more accessible to amateur musicians. For many amateur musicians, an interest in musical theatre means trying to get into the one seat available on your instrument to play for an amateur dramatic society, which is an amazing experience, but at the end of the day the society's priority will be their actors. At Pit Band Birmingham, our priority is you, the musicians, and giving you in depth rehearsals on musicals. We aim to complete 3 projects a year, each of a different musical, where over a 3 month period the musicians involved will have weekly rehearsals delving deep into their current musical, really having the time to rehearse together, which is what many amateur musicians wanting to get into musical theatre are missing out on. Despite Pit Band Birmingham being solely for musicans we still want to be able to give our musicians the experience of collaborating with singers, so although we will not be putting on full musicals, our concerts will incorporate singers to complete the experience of each song we play.

Our Founder

She has had a deep passion for music, especially classical and musical theatre, throughout her entire life. She began playing musical theatre repertoire with the group Music Theatre Essex almost 10 years ago and began as a violin/viola player and gradually transitioned over to being a woodwind doubler playing primarily flute, oboe and saxophone. In her 10 years of musical theatre experience she has played many shows including: Barnum, Shrek: The Musical, Legally Blonde: The Musical and The Little Mermaid. Sian is currently studying for her undergraduate degree on the viola at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and is a member of the Zaska String Quartet who regularly play for recitals and weddings.
